Fresh Jamz 12th Anniversary
January 16th, 2020Kid Cudi-“Dose of Dopeness”
February 20th, 2012Some old Kid Cudi for you produced by Dot Da Genius that never got released until now. Pretty simple beat, but I love the piano loop on it. You can lost in the song and his lyrics. I always appreciate him singing on hooks not a beautiful voice but just makes sense in the track. Much more based in Hip Hop vs. his new stuff that can be a little out there for me. For sure worth a listen and if you like you can download here.

Top 10 Songs of the Week- Tribute to Whitney Houston
February 19th, 2012February 11, 2012 Whitney Houston died. We grew up listening to her, watching her perform and being inspired by her incredible voice. Yesterday sick at home I watched the funeral. I was moved to tears several times listening to her family speak to listening to a special rendition of “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder. Unfortunately in the later part of life was consumed with drug addiction and even worse that downfall was captured on a reality television show. We all laughed at the mess that were Bobby and Whitney because it was on TV and was not our parents, sister or mother. Watching the funeral it reminded of what incredible life she had and all the people that loved her and she loved. The drug addiction was a part of her life that took her too soon but there was definitely more to her than that. She leaves a legacy of music that will always be remembered and will continue inspiring. Here are some of my favorite songs. I found some acapellas to highlight her amazing voice

CHICO MANN – “CALL AND RESPONSE”
February 8th, 2012I remember when I discovered Afro Beat years ago and I was pissed that I had spent so many years without this amazing inspirational music. I of course fell in love with Fela Kuti and through digging and searching I discovered there was so much more out there. Chico Mann(Marcos Garcia) is member of the world renown brookyln based afrobeat group Antibalas. He does an amazing job of pulling together some great afrobeat cuts for this mixtape. More in his own words:
“It’s no secret that I love the funky, African music of the past. It’s an endless source of inspiration and in that spirit, I submit these selections. They are dominated by one band, Orchestre Poly-Ritmo de Cotonou. The simple fact is that the band is amazing. They capture many moods, their scope is vast, and their musical concepts are fresh and highly relevant. If you’ve yet to hear them, now is the time.” Chico Mann
Pharoahe Monch feat. Jill Scott – “Still Standing”(Video)
February 8th, 2012I had not heard this song for a minute it came out last year on Pharoahe Monch’s W.A.R. album. He was one of my favorite MCs all the way back to the Organize Konfusion days. The video resurrects a beautiful song and puts even more beautiful visuals behind it. I love videos that are short films that are just that. It really paints a picture and pulls you that much more closer into the song. Enjoy the video and bring the song back into your rotation.

February 5th, 2012Blake Griffin’s Motivational Dunk
January 31st, 2012I usually do not post ever about sports….but kind of had to after seeing this one. This dunk just motivated me to go hard at everything I do today from meetings at my 9 to 5 to practicing at the turntables tonight. Fools better get out of my way.
M.I.A.- “Bad Girls”
January 30th, 2012
Newish track from M.I.A. it was a part of mixtape that came out last year, but will be released as the first single from her fourth album. I am excited that it sounds more like her first 2 albums. As much as i can appreciate artist trying new things her last album was a little to out there for me. “Bad Boys” has a great hook, dope beat and is getting me excited for her whole album to drop.
